CG is a Compensated Grade. This is a grade below a pass mark (30-39% for foundation and undergraduate level and 40-49% for postgraduate level modules) which is allowed to pass.

Students on eligible courses can be compensated up to 30 credits of taught modules (not dissertations or research projects) provided they have an uncapped level average of 40% at Undergraduate and 50% postgraduate over all 120 taught credits. Please see the Assessment Regulations for more information: Assessments | Manchester Metropolitan University (mmu.ac.uk)

Students shall receive compensated passes in whole modules up to a total value of 30 credits at  levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 where they achieve a weighted average mark in the marginal fail category (30% to 39%) for the summative assessment(s) within that modules, and have achieved an overall average of 40% or greater across the full 120 credits of the level of study.

Students undertaking level 7 of an integrated master's programme shall receive compensated passes in whole modules up to a total value of 30 credits at level 7 where they achieve a weighted average mark in the marginal fail category (40% to 49%) for the module, and have achieved an overall average of 50% or greater across the full 120 credits of the level of study. For the purposes of determining whether a student is eligible for compensation, the level average should be calculated using uncapped marks.

Level 7 students will receive compensated passes in whole modules up to a total value of 30 credits where they have achieved an overall average of 50% across the taught credits. Projects or dissertations are not eligible for compensation on Postgraduate Taught courses.

Some courses have specific regulations and are therefore not eligible for compensation. Please check with your Programme Lead to find out the regulations that apply to your programme.
