Turnitin is an external global similarity (plagiarism) checking service which the University does not control. Summative (final) assessments are managed through the Moodle coursework tool. Once uploaded, submissions are sent to Turnitin for similarity checking. Any issues with Turnitin should not prevent you from uploading your submission.
If there are issues with Turnitin, it is very important that you still submit your work to be marked.
Please note that Turnitin submission receipt can take up to 24 hours to be generated. If there is an issue with Turnitin, you may not receive a similarity report initially for your submission, but your similarity report should become available once Turnitin is back online.
If your tutor has instructed you to submit via the Turnitin Assignment tool and you are unable to upload your submission, please contact your tutor for advice.
If you need help in interpreting similarity reports:
You can view this resource and video playlist.
Please note that there isn’t a specific percentage that is acceptable. The content of the similarity report for each assignment will be reviewed by your tutor. Don’t try to aim for the lowest similarity % possible. Instead focus on making sure that you are using your sources correctly and referencing the work you use. A high similarity can be acceptable, provided you have cited and referenced all your sources correctly.
