If you are an undergraduate student (level 3, 4, 5 and 6), you can only resit if you have failed the year and have a level average of 20% or above. You will only be entitled to one resit opportunity unless you have an accepted evidenced extension. The standard undergraduate reassessment period takes place in late July/early August.
I passed a module, but I think I could have done better, can I resit it anyway?
If you are a postgraduate student (level 7), where you have failed a module, you will be able to resit every failed assessment provided they are first time sits or you have an accepted evidenced extension.
If you have failed one element of assessment, but have passed the module overall, you will not be entitled to resit the failed module, unless your programme stipulates that you must pass every assessment. An assessment could be an exam, presentation, essay, or any other kind of way that you are assessed within that module. Some module have multiple assessments (e.g., an online quiz and a written report) and all will contribute to your overall grade for that module.
Please see the Assessment Regulations for more information.
If personal circumstances impacted your ability to submit your assessment (e.g., a medical emergency or bereavement), you can apply for an evidenced extension. You will need to provide evidence for this. Here is a step-by-step video guide should you need it, and the Assessments guidance page which contains lots of helpful information about extensions, including what forms of evidence are accepted and information on the possible outcomes.
If you feel the University made an error in the conduct of your assessment that has affected your result, you can submit an academic appeal. Please review the relevant guidance and submit a form. More information can be found on the webpage.
